One-Day Kisan Mela-cum-Vegetable and Flower Exhibition Held at Khaltse

Khaltse, DD, A one-day Kisan Mela-cum-Vegetable and Flower Exhibition was successfully held at Khaltse, organised by department of agriculture Leh,drawing enthusiastic participation from farmers, students, and local residents.

The event was started with a welcome speech by Tashi Dolma , Dy. Director Agriculture Department.

The event was aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural practices, showcasing local produce, and encouraging floriculture and vegetable cultivation in the region.

The event was honoured by the presence of Executive Councillor for Agriculture, Stanzin Chosphel,who served as the Chief Guest .Other notable attendees Jigmet Stanzin, CAZRI, Deskyong Namgail, DIHAR, Dr. Sonam Spaldon,Scientist ,SOA (School of Agriculture) University of Ladakh, all Heads of the Department (HODs) from the Khaltse sub-division, as well as participants and villagers of the region.

The mela was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Stanzin Chosphel, Executive Councillor for Agriculture, LAHDC Leh, who appreciated the efforts of local farmers and the agriculture department in creating a platform to highlight the achievements of progressive cultivators.

In his address, Councillor Chosphel emphasized the importance of adopting modern farming techniques while preserving traditional practices suited to Ladakh’s unique climatic conditions. He also emphasised the practice of cultivating and sustaining their own seeds.

During the exhibition, farmers from Khaltse sub-division displayed a wide variety of vegetables, flowers, and innovative farming practices. Stalls featuring organic produce and indigenous seeds attracted significant attention from visitors.

Prizes were distributed among the best-performing farmers for their outstanding contributions in vegetable and flower cultivation.

Officials from the agriculture department also provided awareness on government schemes, subsidies, and technical support available to farmers.

During the event a cultural programme was also showcased by the students of Govt. Middle School Skurbuchan and Govt. High School Wanla.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by DAO Leh Shakeel – ur- Rehman.DD
