Leh, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena unveiled the official jersey and medal for the 13th Ladakh Marathon on Monday. Sharing this information on the social media platform X, he stated that this event—an internationally certified marathon held at the highest altitude in the world—has become a symbol of the runners’ spirit, perseverance, and global sporting excellence amidst Ladakh’s rugged mountain ranges.
The Lieutenant Governor announced that, for the first time, the Union Territory administration has increased the total prize money for the Ladakh Marathon to ₹1 crore.
The objective is to encourage athletes and boost participation in the competition. Following the hike in prize money, unprecedented enthusiasm for the marathon has been witnessed this year; approximately 10,000 runners have registered so far, compared to 6,521 last year.
Vinai Kumar Saxena remarked that the rising participation reflects Ladakh’s emerging identity as a premier adventure and sports tourism destination. The Ladakh Marathon is not merely a sporting competition but also a celebration of the region’s culture, environment, and indomitable spirit. He expressed optimism about welcoming the participants and showcasing Ladakh’s unique identity to the world.
