Udhampur, Questions have been raised over the functioning of the 108 ambulance service at Government Medical College (GMC), Udhampur, after a patient reportedly had to wait for nearly four hours for an ambulance required for further treatment and referral.
According to the patient’s family from the Jib Pali area, the ambulance was sought late Tuesday night, but the required facility was not made available despite prolonged waiting. With the situation causing concern, the family approached District Congress Committee (DCC) President Sumeet Magotra for assistance.
Magotra, along with party workers, subsequently reached GMC Udhampur, met the patient’s family and took up the matter with the hospital administration and Medical Superintendent. He urged the authorities to arrange an ambulance immediately, keeping in view the patient’s condition. Following the intervention, an ambulance was arranged and the patient was shifted for further treatment.
Expressing concern over the incident, Magotra said that patients and their families are already under considerable mental stress when they visit a hospital and should not have to wait for hours for basic emergency services. He stressed that timely healthcare and ambulance facilities should be available to every patient, irrespective of their financial status.
Magotra urged the GMC Udhampur administration and concerned authorities to strengthen the 108 ambulance service and ensure that patients do not face similar difficulties in the future.
The patient’s family and others present at the hospital also expressed gratitude to Magotra for intervening and helping facilitate the ambulance service.
