India, Cambodia Hold Joint Military Exercise for UN Peacekeeping

New Delhi: The second edition of the India-Cambodia Bilateral Military Exercise, CINBAX-II 2026, is underway at the Techo Sen Phnom Thom Mreas Prov Royal Cambodian Air Force Training Centre, Camp Basil, in Kampong Speu Province, Kingdom of Cambodia.

The exercise, being conducted until May 17, 2026, has brought together an Indian Army contingent comprising 120 personnel, mainly from a battalion of the Maratha Light Infantry, and 160 personnel from the Royal Cambodian Army. The aim is to enhance interoperability, coordination, and operational synergy between the two armies.

The joint exercise is being conducted under the framework of Chapter VII of the United Nations mandate and focuses on the joint planning and execution of coordinated tactical operations in a sub-conventional semi-urban environment.

The training is aligned with the contemporary dynamics of counter-terrorism and peacekeeping operations. Both contingents are participating in a combination of Command Post Exercises, Field Training Exercises, and specialised skill-based training programmes. The emphasis is on developing a common understanding of tactics, techniques, and procedures, while also exchanging best practices and operational experiences gained during operations against hostile forces.

As part of the ongoing training, troops from both nations are carrying out practical drills in firing, tactical drone operations, urban warfare, mortar drills, sniper training, combat first aid, and disaster relief operations.

The exercise also includes familiarisation with new-generation weapons and equipment, including drones and unmanned aerial systems, enabling both contingents to refine their operational responses in complex semi-urban scenarios. Specialised training in sniper tactics, mortar deployment, drone warfare, and combat casualty management is further contributing to enhanced battlefield coordination and mission readiness.

CINBAX-II 2026 is not only a platform for military training but also a reflection of the growing defence cooperation between India and Cambodia. The exercise is expected to further strengthen bilateral military relations, foster mutual cooperation, enhance cultural understanding, and contribute to shared preparedness in addressing regional and global security challenges.

Through such joint training engagements, both armies continue to reinforce their commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and security under the United Nations framework.
