KATHUA: Continuing its crackdown on drug trafficking, Kathua Police arrested an inter-state drug smuggler and recovered approximately 279 grams of heroin (chitta) from his possession at Keerian in the Lakhanpur area.
A motorcycle allegedly used in the commission of the crime was also seized. Acting on specific intelligence received from a reliable source, a police team led by the SHO, Police Station Lakhanpur, under the supervision of the Additional SP Kathua and DySP DAR Kathua, laid a naka at Keerian on August 20.
During checking, the police intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number PB08BS-8806. The rider, identified as Sabir, son of Nazim, a resident of Jahanpura in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, was reportedly travelling from Punjab towards Jammu and Kashmir via the Keerian area.
During the search, police recovered approximately 279 grams of a heroin-like narcotic substance from his possession. The contraband and the motorcycle were seized, and the accused was taken into custody on the spot.
A case under FIR No. 107/2026 has been registered at Police Station Lakhanpur under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
