Srinagar, Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Sunday said his party would press New Delhi to restore the constitutional rights of Jammu and Kashmir while safeguarding the region’s demographic character.
Addressing a workers’ convention in Bandipora, Bukhari said the resolution of Jammu and Kashmir’s issues lies through engagement with the Centre and urged the Government of India to fulfil its commitment of bridging the “Dilli aur Dil Ki Dooriyan” through meaningful dialogue with the people.
He said the Apni Party would continue to pursue the restoration of the constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Criticising the ruling National Conference (NC), Bukhari questioned its silence on the issue of statehood since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 and accused it of failing to protect the interests of the people.
Highlighting development concerns in Bandipora, he demanded the early construction of the Gurez Tunnel to provide all-weather connectivity, completion of the Bandipora-Sogam Road, promotion of tourism, protection of Wular Lake, improved healthcare and education infrastructure, and better basic amenities, particularly safe drinking water, in tribal villages.
He also called for protecting the traditional rights of local communities in mining activities, alleging that locals had been deprived of their livelihoods while outsiders were benefiting from mining contracts.
Expressing concern over rising unemployment, Bukhari said the lack of job opportunities was leaving educated youth frustrated and contributing to social problems, including drug abuse. He urged the government to create meaningful employment opportunities for young people.
The Apni Party president also accused the National Conference of failing to fulfil key election promises, including free electricity, LPG cylinders, additional ration and employment generation.
Appealing to people to support the Apni Party, Bukhari said the party was committed to addressing public grievances and ensuring development across Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Apni Party Provincial President Mohammad Ashraf Mir urged party workers to strengthen public outreach and remain connected with people at the grassroots level to highlight and resolve their issues.
During the convention, Sameer Iqbal, a youth leader from the National Conference in Kuloosa, Bandipora, joined the Apni Party along with his supporters.
The convention was attended by several senior party leaders and was jointly organised by District President Syed Shafat Kazmi and senior leader Naseer Ahmad Mir.
