3 women among 10 booked for obstructing smart meter installation in Kishtwar

Kishtwar, (DD): Ten people, including three women, have been booked for allegedly obstructing the installation of smart electricity meters in Kishtwar, officials said today.

According to sources, the police registered an FIR after a group of locals attempted to hinder the ongoing smart meter installation drive. The authorities have been working to implement the project as part of the government’s efforts to modernize power distribution in the region.

An official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said, “The accused individuals created hurdles for the installation teams, preventing them from carrying out their work. Despite repeated warnings, the resistance continued, prompting legal action.”

The move has sparked mixed reactions from the public. While some residents argue that smart meters will bring transparency and reduce power losses, others have voiced concerns over high electricity bills and faulty readings.

Authorities have assured that the installation process will continue as planned and that legal measures will be taken against any further disruptions.(DD)
