AIIMS Jammu Leads Anti-Drug Campaign


Jammu, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu observed Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan from 17th to 26th June 2026 under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The campaign was organized by the Department of Community Medicine, AIIMS Vijaypur, Jammu, under the visionary guidance of Prof. (Dr.) D. N. Sharma, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Jammu, in collaboration with the District Health Authority (DHA), Samba. The initiative aimed to create awareness about substance abuse prevention and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle among students, healthcare professionals, patients, and the community.


Community outreach activities were conducted at Ayushman Arogya Mandir -Sub Centre, Sangwali Mandi, where awareness sessions educated participants on the physical, psychological, social, and economic consequences of substance abuse. A Yoga Session highlighted the role of healthy lifestyle practices in stress management and addiction prevention, while a Nukkad Natak (Street Play) effectively communicated the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of early intervention and community support. A Human Chain, involving healthcare workers, Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members, ASHAs, Anganwadi Workers, community volunteers, and local residents, symbolized the collective commitment towards a drug-free society. Participants also took the Nasha Mukt Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to remain free from drugs and spread awareness within their communities.


At AIIMS Jammu, undergraduate students, faculty members, residents, and staff participated in the Nasha Mukt Pledge and registered themselves as “Nasha Mukti Mitra” through the official campaign portal. Educational short films provided by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment were screened to highlight the dangers of substance abuse, peer pressure, and the importance of seeking timely counselling and de-addiction services. A Signature Campaign at the OPD Block witnessed active participation from faculty, residents, nursing officers, students, hospital staff, patients, and attendants, who pledged their support for a drug-free society.


To encourage youth participation, AIIMS Jammu organized Online Poster Making, Slogan Writing, Infographic Design, and Reel Making Competitions. The competitions received enthusiastic participation from students, whose innovative entries reflected creativity, social responsibility, and a strong commitment towards the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat. Winners were felicitated with prizes in recognition of their outstanding contributions. Testimonial sessions by a Medical Social Worker from the Department of Psychiatry and a Health Assistant from the Department of Community Medicine further enriched the programme by sharing professional and community perspectives on substance abuse prevention and recovery.


Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) D. N. Sharma, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Jammu, emphasized that substance abuse remains a major public health challenge requiring sustained community engagement and youth participation. He highlighted the need for collaborative efforts involving healthcare institutions, educational organizations, policymakers, and communities to prevent addiction and promote healthy lifestyles. He reiterated AIIMS Jammu’s commitment to supporting national initiatives aimed at creating a healthier, safer, and drug-free India.


The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan concluded successfully with active participation from students, healthcare professionals, District Health Authority officials, PRI members, frontline health workers, and community members, reinforcing the collective resolve to achieve the vision of “Nasha Mukt Bharat, Khushhal Bharat.”
