Venezuela’s Interim Government Sacks Presidential Honour Guard Chief Javier Marcano Tabata

Diplomat Foreign Desk
Caracas: Venezuela’s interim government has sacked the security in charge, a top-ranking military officer, Javier Marcano Tabata, amid an investigation to apprehend those responsible for inadequate security and alleged security leaks to the United States following the abduction of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

Maduro was abducted and taken to New York, USA, on charges of narco-terrorism along with his wife.

Even as the interim government assumed charge following the detention/abduction of the president, the present administration has launched an internal investigation against suspected “traitors” who allegedly collaborated with the U.S. and disclosed sensitive security details.

As the investigations are yet to fully take shape, the interim government removed the head of the Presidential Honour Guard, indicating suspension and a pending investigation into the broader military leadership.

Meanwhile, armed civilian militias have been patrolling the streets, checking vehicles and individuals across the country, as the military leadership has reportedly lost public trust, according to media reports. (Agencies)
