Kishtwar Gets Road Infrastructure Boost

Kishtwar: Kishtwar district is set to witness a significant improvement in its road infrastructure following the approval of macadamisation works on 12 key roads under the Cities and Towns (C&T) Sector CAPEX 2026–27. The projects, estimated at over ₹4.78 crore, have entered the tendering stage through the Public Works Department (R&B).

The approved works are aimed at improving road conditions in Kishtwar town and adjoining areas through the laying of Water Bound Macadam (WBM), bituminous macadam, and premix carpet, along with allied works such as the construction of drains and RCC pipes wherever required.

The roads included in the project are the DSB Pochie Link Road, Tulsi Nagar–Matta Road, Hidyal–Tund Road, Hidyal Chowk–Bemarnag Road, Zewar Link Road, Workshop–Zelna Link Road, Serian–Poochal Link Road, KP Road to Sangrambhata near Satang Ashram, Bulchiter–Bugrana Road, Interior District Hospital Kishtwar Road, and Guriyan–Hidyal Chowk Road via Qilla Top, besides other stretches identified under the CAPEX programme.

The approval is being viewed as a result of the sustained efforts of Kishtwar MLA Shagun Parihar, who has consistently advocated for the upgradation of road infrastructure across the constituency. The projects are expected to significantly enhance connectivity, facilitate smoother traffic movement, and improve road safety for residents.

Locals have welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that the long-pending road upgrades will ease travel difficulties and improve access to essential services. With the tendering process already underway, work is expected to commence soon after the contracts are awarded, marking another important step towards strengthening Kishtwar’s infrastructure and urban development.
