JJM Boost in J&K: 1,469 Water Supply Schemes Completed, 1,377 Operational

Srinagar: The Jal Shakti Department has physically completed 1,469 water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Jammu and Kashmir, providing tap water connections to households across the Union Territory.

Officials said that out of the completed projects, 1,377 schemes have already been made operational, ensuring functional tap water connections to households. In addition, 1,778 schemes are currently under execution at various stages, with over 900 projects achieving more than 75 percent physical progress.

Clarifying the status of pending works, officials said only six schemes are yet to begin due to site-specific issues and no expenditure has been incurred on their physical execution so far.

According to official records, 1,861 schemes were approved for the Jammu division, while 1,392 schemes were sanctioned for the Kashmir division.

Officials further said that the physical and financial progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission is available transparently in the public domain through the JJM-IMIS dashboard.

The mission follows a robust verification mechanism under which physical progress reported by the department is verified by Gram Sabhas through the Har Ghar Jal certification process. Of the 1,390 villages reported as Har Ghar Jal by the department, 890 villages have already been certified by their respective Gram Panchayats.

Against the total estimated project cost of Rs 13,344 crore, the department has spent Rs 7,105 crore, accounting for nearly 53 per cent of the total outlay. Officials said the remaining works will be completed in a time-bound manner, subject to the release of pending funds.
