J&K Budget Session Concludes; Speaker Praises Robust Legislative Participation

Jammu, DD, The Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, adjourned the House sine die on Wednesday, marking the end of a 21-day Budget Session that began on 3 March with the Lieutenant Governor’s address.

Reflecting on the proceedings, the Speaker noted that the session was among the longest in the country so far this year, highlighting the Assembly’s active engagement. During the session, 1,355 questions were submitted, with 154 principal questions taken up on the floor and 353 supplementary questions answered.

The House also received 1,738 Cut Motions, of which 1,731 were discussed. Three Government Bills were introduced and passed, alongside 33 Private Members’ Bills that were listed for legislative business.

Additionally, 78 Calling Attention Motions were received; 23 were taken up while 34 were disallowed. A total of 109 resolutions were submitted, 85 of which were admitted and 14 listed for discussion.

The Speaker noted that over 39 hours of debate and legislative business were conducted during the session. He extended his gratitude to all Members of the Assembly for their cooperation and constructive participation.

Appreciation was also extended to supporting departments including the Assembly Secretariat, Department of Information, Health Department, J&K Police, Radio Kashmir, Doordarshan and the media for facilitating the smooth conduct of the session.(DD)
