Jammu: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu on Wednesday launched a three-day Management Development Programme (MDP) on “Leadership Skills for Managers” for officers of the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) Limited.
Organised by the Executive Education and Consultancy Division, the programme, being held from July 16 to 18, aims to equip NBCC managers with contemporary leadership skills, strategic decision-making abilities and managerial competencies needed to navigate complex organisational challenges.
The inaugural session began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp and was attended by Dr. Debasis Satapathy, Executive Director, NBCC Limited; Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu; Prof. Rajesh Sikka, Co-Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy; and Programme Directors Dr. Ateeque Shaikh and Dr. Shivani Sachdev. The programme has 20 participants.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Debasis Satapathy emphasised the importance of leadership transformation and continuous learning, stating that managerial and leadership skills become more critical than technical expertise as professionals advance in their careers. He encouraged participants to embrace challenges and develop competencies necessary for higher responsibilities.
Prof. Jabir Ali urged participants to approach the programme with curiosity and openness, saying the training has been designed to expose them to contemporary leadership practices and strategic thinking beyond conventional classroom learning.
Prof. Rajesh Sikka highlighted IIM Jammu’s growing engagement with public sector organisations through customised executive education programmes tailored to meet specific organisational requirements.
Dr. Ateeque Shaikh presented an overview of the programme, outlining its objectives and expected learning outcomes, while participants from NBCC introduced themselves and shared their expectations, fostering an environment of collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shivani Sachdev, followed by the National Anthem and a group photograph.
Through such initiatives, IIM Jammu continues to strengthen its role in capacity building and leadership development by empowering professionals from public sector enterprises with the skills and perspectives needed to lead effectively in an evolving business environment.
