Handwara Police Arrests Five Gamblers During Raid; Gambling Material and Stake Money Seized

Handwara, DD, As part of its continued drive against social evils, Handwara Police conducted a successful raid in the Langate area today, leading to the arrest of five individuals involved in illegal gambling.

The operation was carried out in the Langate area, following a specific tip regarding the presence of persons engaged in gambling activities. Acting swiftly, a team from Police Post Langate raided the location and apprehended five accused individuals red-handed while gambling. During the raid, playing cards and stake money amounting to ₹8,060 were recovered from the spot.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  1. Abdul Majeed Sheikh, S/o Abdul Gaffar Sheikh, R/o Vodhoora
  2. Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh, S/o Abdul Gani Sheikh, R/o Sheikh Mohalla Langate
  3. Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, S/o Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh, R/o Rambagh, Srinagar
  4. Ghulam Mohammad Mir, S/o Abdul Gani Mir, R/o Kargama
  5. Shabir Ahmad Sheikh, S/o Abdul Gani Sheikh, R/o Qamarwari, Srinagar

In this connection, a case FIR No. 183/2025 under Section 13 of the Gambling Act has been registered at Police Station Handwara, and further legal proceedings are underway.

Handwara Police remains committed to keep check on unlawful and anti-social elements in the area. Citizens are urged to cooperate by reporting such activities, with assurance that the identity of sources will strictly remain confidential.
