DIG Reviews Security Preparations for Amarnath Yatra


UDHAMPUR, J&K (India): Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, chaired a high-level joint security review and coordination meeting at the Range Police Headquarters, Udhampur, to assess preparedness for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.

Senior Superintendent of Police Udhampur, Amritpal Singh, presented a detailed briefing on security arrangements, surveillance measures, convoy management, deployment of Quick Action Teams, and emergency response plans.

The meeting was attended by senior officers from the CRPF, Army, BSF, ITBP, NDRF, Intelligence Bureau, CID, SDRF, Traffic Police, Railways Police, NHAI, and other security agencies.

Addressing the officers, DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma stressed the need for maximum alertness, strict adherence to security protocols, and pilgrim-friendly conduct throughout the Yatra. He directed SSP Udhampur to strengthen security through regular inspections of community kitchens, lodgement centres, and other facilities, while maintaining close surveillance on suspicious activities and anti-national elements.

The officers were instructed to intensify intelligence gathering, promptly share actionable inputs, and maintain close coordination with intelligence agencies to ensure a robust and proactive security grid.

The DIG also emphasised strengthening surveillance through enhanced drone monitoring, deployment of Dog Squads for anti-sabotage checks at vital installations, and round-the-clock domination of the National Highway through naka checking and area patrolling.

Project Director NHAI, Anuj Kumar Singh, was advised to ensure proper maintenance of the highway and position emergency restoration machinery at vulnerable locations for swift response during any exigency.

The meeting concluded with a strong emphasis on maintaining high operational readiness and inter-agency coordination to ensure a safe, secure, and smooth pilgrimage.
