Jammu, The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu has filed a chargesheet in a ₹20.28 lakh alleged fraud case involving a fake optical fibre installation contract before the Court of Judicial Magistrate Munsiff, Ramban.

The case was registered under FIR No. 15/2023 under Sections 420 and 120-B of the RPC at Police Station Crime Branch EOW Jammu, following a written complaint by Gani Sham, a resident of Hiller, Jath Gali, Ramban.

According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Himant Mintoo, Pervaiz Ahmed Mir and Balwan Singh, Numberdar of Village Sawni, allegedly posed as employees of Dhruv Optical Fiber Pvt. Ltd. and lured the complainant into a fraudulent business deal.

The investigation, conducted by Inspector Meenu Sharma, revealed that the complainant was allegedly duped of ₹20,28,000 on the pretext of awarding him an optical fibre wire installation contract for the 107-kilometre Ramban–Mahore route.

During the investigation, it emerged that the company had been registered in 2013–14 but had subsequently been closed and struck off the list of registered companies. The work orders and cheques provided to the complainant were found to be fraudulent, the Crime Branch said.

The investigating agency stated that the evidence collected established a prima facie case under Sections 420 and 120-B RPC against the accused. Accordingly, the chargesheet has been filed before the competent court for judicial determination.
The Crime Branch has also requested the court to initiate proceedings under Section 512 of the CrPC against Himant Mintoo, who is reportedly absconding and has allegedly evaded the investigation.

Meanwhile, SSP Crime Branch EOW Jammu has advised the public to remain vigilant against economic frauds and report such incidents to the agency. Victims can submit complaints via email at sspcrimejmu@jkpolice.gov.in or contact the Crime Branch at 0191-2578901.
