BJP’s Sunil Sharma Accuses NC of Politicizing Waqf Bill, inciting religious sentiments

Jammu,(DD): Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma today accused the National Conference (NC) of using the Waqf Amendment Bill to provoke religious sentiments and divert public attention.

Addressing reporters in Srinagar, Sharma said the Bill has already been passed by Parliament and is currently under judicial review. “Debating it in the Legislative Assembly is both unconstitutional and misleading,” he asserted.

He criticized the NC for remaining silent when the Bill was discussed in Parliament, only to now raise objections at the state level. “This sudden outrage seems more about grabbing headlines than genuine concern,” Sharma said, adding that even the Speaker’s involvement appears politically motivated.

Sharma urged political parties to avoid exploiting religious issues for short-term political gains and instead focus on constructive legislative debate(DD)
