Kathua: Security forces reviewed arrangements for the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra (SANJY)-2026 during a comprehensive joint security review-cum-coordination meeting chaired by SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma at the Conference Hall of District Police Lines (DPL), Kathua.
During the meeting, the SSP gave a detailed presentation on security arrangements, surveillance measures, convoy management, Quick Reaction Team (QRT) deployment, and emergency response plans for the annual pilgrimage.
Addressing the officers, SSP Mohita Sharma stressed maximum alertness, strict adherence to security protocols, and pilgrim-friendly conduct during SANJY-2026. She directed supervisory officers to strengthen security through regular inspections of langars, lodging centres, and other Yatra-related facilities while maintaining close surveillance on suspicious movements and anti-national elements.
The officers were instructed to intensify intelligence gathering, promptly share actionable inputs, and maintain close coordination with intelligence agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a robust and proactive security grid.
Directions were also issued to strengthen security along the border, National Highway (NHW), and railway tracks, with special focus on round-the-clock domination, naka checking, and area domination patrols. Emphasis was laid on completing census and tenant verification drives along the NHW, at hotels, dhabas, and among factory workers to rule out the presence of anti-national elements near the Yatra route.
The SSP further emphasized enhancing surveillance and response capabilities through intensified drone-based monitoring, installation of X-ray machines, deployment of Dog Squads for anti-sabotage checks at key locations, including Base Camp Lakhanpur and other Yatra sites, and ensuring the operational readiness of QRTs.
She also stressed seamless coordination among Police, CAPFs, Civil Administration, Traffic Police, Health Services, and other departments, focusing on prompt information sharing, joint preparedness, and an effective response to any exigency.
Officers were further directed to ensure effective management and security of Yatra mini-convoys and enhance CCTV coverage at all important Yatra locations with dedicated 24×7 monitoring.
Reiterating the need for high operational readiness and coordinated efforts, SSP Kathua said all agencies must work in close coordination to ensure the safe, smooth, and successful conduct of SANJY-2026.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Police, Army, BSF, CRPF, Intelligence agencies, Home Guards, SDRF, Traffic Police, and other stakeholder departments, along with supervisory officers and SHOs from across Kathua district.
