Mystery Death of dr Prabhjot Chalotra Sparks Protest; BJP Leader Joins Call for CBI Probe

Jammu: Public outrage continued to mount over the mysterious death of a young doctor, as nearly 300 people took part in a candlelight march in the Bahu Fort area here, demanding a thorough probe and justice for Dr Prabhjot Chalotra.

Dr Chalotra, a resident of Bahu Fort, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the Gandoh area of Doda district on April 20. His body was handed over to the family the following day. Since then, the family has alleged foul play and questioned the circumstances surrounding his death.

The march, organised by the bereaved family on Tuesday evening, commenced from the doctor’s residence and culminated at Saryara Sabha passing through Bawe Wali Mata Temple which briefly disturbed traffic on busy stretch. Participants carrying candles, raised slogans and seek justice. A large number of local residents joined the protest, reflecting widespread concern over the incident.

Senior BJP leader and State Vice President Rajeev Charak joined the protest in solidarity with the family. He said that their fight is to secure justice for the victim. Raising concerns over the handling of the case, he stressed that the truth must come out and called for a CBI probe.

Describing the deceased as the sole support of his ageing parents and siblings, Charak demanded strict action against those found responsible. He termed the protest symbolic and asserted that the agitation would continue until justice is delivered.

Family members have rejected initial claims of an accidental fall, maintaining that the condition of the body suggests a possible conspiracy. A relative said the circumstances surrounding the death raise serious doubts.

The deceased’s sister, pointed to alleged inconsistencies, questioning how a fall from a height of around 300 feet resulted in limited injuries. She also flagged the absence of visual evidence of the recovery process despite claims that locals had assisted. The family further alleged that the deceased’s mobile phones had been formatted and his social media accounts deactivated, deepening suspicion.

Protesters later gathered at Saryara Sabha, reiterating their demand for a transparent and time-bound investigation into the death of the 27-year-old doctor. The family has vowed to continue its fight for justice.

The incident has sparked widespread concern across Jammu and on social media, with growing calls for accountability and an impartial probe.
