Gusty Winds, Heavy Rain Wreak Havoc in North and Central Kashmir

Vehicles Damaged, Power Infrastructure Hit in Kupwara, Baramulla, Srinagar

Srinagar, (DD): Strong gusty winds and heavy rainfall caused significant damage across parts of North and Central Kashmir on Friday evening, leading to disruption of daily life, damage to property, and power outages in several areas.

According to local reports, intense weather conditions impacted multiple districts, including Baramulla, Kupwara, and Srinagar. In Kupwara’s Qaziabad and Kralgund Market areas, several vehicles were damaged as rooftops and electric poles collapsed due to the storm. Power cables were snapped, resulting in outages in various localities.

Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said that a spell of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms is likely to affect many areas of the Kashmir Division, as well as Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda, Reasi, Udhampur, and parts of the Jammu plains over the next 3–5 hours.

He warned that some areas may witness intense downpours that could trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are also expected.

The Meteorological Department has advised residents to stay away from loose structures, old trees, and exposed electric poles to ensure their safety during this period of adverse weather(DD)
