Omar Abdullah Slams Israeli Attack on Iran, Calls It “Totally Unjustified”

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has strongly condemned Israel’s recent military strike on Iran, calling it “totally unjustified” and “unprovoked.” He also criticised what he termed as the global community’s “double standards” in responding to international conflicts.

Speaking to reporters, the National Conference vice president questioned the silence of world powers, particularly the United States and European nations, over the Israeli strike.

“Iran did not give any reason to Israel to carry out attacks on it. This strike is totally unjustified and unprovoked,” Abdullah said.

Drawing a comparison with the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the former CM remarked that when Russia launched an offensive against Ukraine, the international community was quick to condemn and impose sanctions. However, he lamented, the same voices fall silent when Israel strikes another sovereign nation.

“There is a stark difference in how the world reacts. Russia was condemned globally for its action, but when it comes to Israel, the US and Europe choose to remain silent,” Abdullah added.

The remarks come amid growing tension in West Asia following the Israeli attack, which has drawn criticism from several countries, including Oman. Regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir, led by Abdullah, have also expressed concern over the potential escalation and its implications for global peace and security.

Abdullah’s statement underscores a broader sentiment among political observers in the region, who argue that selective outrage and diplomatic bias could further destabilize international relations(DD)
