Omar Abdullah Criticizes BJP’s Stance on J&K Militancy

Arun Jasrotia
Udhampur, (TDD): Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, took a strong swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a rally in Dehma, Majalta area of Udhampur district.

Omar accused the BJP of inconsistency in addressing militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, pointing out contradictions in their narrative.

Omar sarcastically thanked the BJP for unintentionally popularizing the National Conference’s manifesto nationwide, a move he sees as recognition of his party’s growing influence, despite its regional focus.

Focusing on the surge in militancy in the Jammu region over the past three years, Omar blamed the BJP for its failure to contain the situation. He cited increased militant activities in districts like Chenab, Pir Panjal, Kathua, Reasi, Udhampur, and Samba, and demanded an apology from the BJP for what he termed a serious lapse.

Abdullah further highlighted what he sees as the BJP’s contradictory stance on militancy. He noted that within Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP blames “three families” for the unrest, while outside the region, it points fingers at Pakistan.

Abdullah questioned why, if his party(National Conference) is indeed responsible for militancy as alleged, by them (BJP), doesn’t engage in talks with Pakistan. He argued that by blaming us within J&K but citing Pakistan as the culprit elsewhere, the BJP is effectively giving Pakistan a “clean chit” in the matter of J&K’s militancy.

Abdullah concluded by attributing the BJP’s increasing attacks on the National Conference to their internal frustration, especially with reports suggesting that the BJP president in J&K might lose the upcoming election in Nowshera.—(TDD)
