Potters says this time demand was more compared to past

Srinagar, (TDD) : As the festival of Diwali arrives, the streets of Kashmir are aglow with a vibrant display of lights and colors, with a significant increase in the sales of traditional diyas.
Local artisans and potters are witnessing a surge in demand for their handcrafted creations, symbolizing hope and unity during this festive season.
In Srinagar’s bustling Lal Chowk, potters like Mohammad Umar Kumar have reported an rise in sales this year. “Last year was good, but this Diwali has brought has bought renewed enthusiasm among buyers,” he said. “I’ve already sold over 2,500 diyas this Diwali, and it is heartening to see our culture celebrated through our craft.”
The popularity of these handmade diyas is not limited to the city, while potters in districts like Ganderbal and Anantnag are also experiencing increased interest.
As many other potters shared a good flow of people. “More people are seeking out traditional diyas instead of mass-produced ones. This shift shows a desire to connect with our roots and support local artisans,” said a potter from Ganderbal.
Pertainly, the rise in diya sales reflects a broader trend of cultural appreciation during festivals. As families prepare for Diwali, many are opting for locally made products, enhancing the spirit of the celebration.
