Some Trying to Mislead People on Statehood Issue: LG Manoj Sinha

Says Oct 31 marks beginning of new J&K, free from fear and separatism

Srinagar: DD, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday said that a few individuals are attempting to mislead the people of Jammu and Kashmir regarding the restoration of statehood, despite the Union Home Minister having already clarified the roadmap.

Speaking at an event at SKICC Srinagar, LG Sinha said, “The Home Minister has made it clear first delimitation, then elections, and thereafter, statehood at an appropriate time.”

He said those spreading confusion must understand that the Union Territory government possesses adequate powers which should be utilised for the welfare of the people rather than for political speculation.

The LG said that October 31 marks the “birth of a new Jammu and Kashmir” an era that ended fear, separatism and discrimination, giving rise to peace, development, and participation in democracy.

Sinha said that six years ago, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, history was created when laws framed by the Indian Parliament were extended to Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that many people had sacrificed for this transformation, the foundation of which was laid by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

He further added that with the abrogation of Article 370, “the walls of separatism have fallen, terrorism has been crushed, and democracy has been strengthened in J&K.”

LG said that the youth have rejected the path of violence and stone pelting has become a thing of the past, with people now coming forward in support of peace and progress. (KNC)
