Revenue officials call on Chief Secretary, Ladakh

Diplomat Correspondent

Leh: A delegation of Patwaris serving in the Revenue Department of the Union Territory of Ladakh today called on the Chief Secretary, UT Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, at the UT Secretariat, Leh.

During the meeting, the delegation submitted a representation highlighting several long-pending and critical issues affecting the Patwari cadre.

The delegation emphasized that Patwaris form the backbone of the Revenue Department at the grassroots level, shouldering key responsibilities such as maintenance of land records, revenue collection, resolution of land disputes, and delivery of public services in one of the most challenging terrains of the Union Territory.

Despite their dedicated service under harsh conditions, including extreme weather and postings in remote areas, the delegation stated that certain systemic issues continue to adversely affect their morale, efficiency, and overall welfare.

The key demands raised in the representation including Upgradation to Technical Grade and enhancement of pay scale; framing of a fair and transparent transfer policy; Provision of Travelling Allowance (TA) and official transport support for field duties; Bifurcation of GQ Circles and Patwar Halqas to reduce workload;
Expediting the conduct of the Patwari examination for the 2020 batch after completion of training.

The Chief Secretary gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them that their genuine concerns would be examined sympathetically in consultation with the concerned departments.
He appreciated the efforts for technological upgradation in the patwari cadre and assured of a fair resolution.DD
