Srinagar, (DD): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a spell of rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir starting July 5, raising concerns of flash floods, landslides, shooting stones, and mudslides, particularly along the Amarnath Yatra route.

Dr. Mukhtiar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, said the weather is expected to remain hot and humid until July 5, after which a change is likely beginning from the night of July 5.

“Moderate to heavy rain may occur at isolated places while light to moderate rain is likely in the Kashmir Valley. Weather-related disruptions are more likely during night, early morning, and evening hours,” he said.

While the rainfall may bring temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave, officials have advised pilgrims and service personnel to stay alert and follow all safety instructions issued by the administration.

The first batch of Amarnath Yatris began their journey from Baltal and Pahalgam base camps earlier today. Authorities have assured that real-time weather assessments will guide decisions on pilgrim movement to ensure their safety.

The IMD and local administration will continue to monitor conditions closely and issue timely updates. Pilgrims have been urged to avoid vulnerable stretches during risky hours and stay informed through official channels(DD)
