NC denies Dulat’s Claims on Farooq Abdullah, Labels Book ‘Contradictory and Fictional’

Party Affirms Internal Unity, Says Aga Ruhullah’s Concerns Will Be Addressed

Srinagar,(DD): National Conference (NC) Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq today strongly refuted allegations made by former RAW chief A.S. Dulat in his new book The Chief Minister and the Spy, calling them “fictional” and “contradictory.”

Dulat claims in the book that NC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah privately supported the abrogation of Article 370 despite publicly opposing it.

Responding to the allegations, Sadiq said the book lacks consistency and undermines its own credibility. “Dulat writes that the Government of India waited seven months to assess Farooq Abdullah Sahib’s reaction while he was under detention. If that’s true, why would he go on to promote and lead the formation of the PAGD after his release?” Sadiq questioned.

He emphasized that the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) came into existence post-Abdullah’s release and was never dismantled by the National Conference.

Sadiq also dismissed Dulat’s remarks about the PDP and its leadership as inappropriate. “The language used regarding the PDP is in poor taste. I don’t give much weight to such statements,” he said, adding that Dulat’s past comments about PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed appeared to be aimed at maintaining relevance.

He further claimed that the opposition was inventing controversies due to a lack of real issues. “They are unable to speak on the budget or pressing matters, so they’re resorting to fiction. Meanwhile, we are focused on crucial issues like the amendment bill and reservation concerns,” he said.

Addressing recent comments by Srinagar MP Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi—who had alleged being sidelined for supporting student protests—Sadiq assured that such matters would be dealt with internally and in a constructive manner.(DD)
