India’s DRDO Unveils Advanced Armoured Platforms

New Delhi: The Advanced Armoured Platforms (tracked and wheeled), designed and developed by the Vehicles Research and Development Establishment, were unveiled by Secretary, Department of Defence (R&D) and Chairman DRDO, Dr. Samir V. Kamat, at a DRDO laboratory in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra. The platforms have been developed to meet the emerging operational requirements of the defence forces.

Both platforms are equipped with an indigenously designed and developed 30 mm crewless turret, featuring advanced capabilities to meet mobility, firepower, and protection requirements. Integrated with a high-power engine and automatic transmission, the platforms offer a high power-to-weight ratio, enhanced speed, and improved gradient and obstacle negotiation capability. They provide STANAG Level 4 and 5 protection, along with modular blast and ballistic protection. The amphibious design, with hydro-jet propulsion, enhances water obstacle-crossing capability and operational flexibility.

The 30 mm crewless turret, along with a 7.62 mm PKT gun, is also configured to launch anti-tank guided missiles. The base design allows configuration for multiple roles. The indigenous content currently stands at around 65%, with plans to increase it to 90%.

The platforms have been manufactured by two industry partners—Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Bharat Forge Limited—with support from several MSMEs, strengthening the evolving defence ecosystem.

The programme was attended by distinguished scientists and Directors General of Armament & Combat Engineering Systems (ACE), Production, Coordination and Services Interaction (PC&SI), as well as senior officials from industry. Directors and scientists from various DRDO laboratories, including VRDE, ARDE, DMRL, HEMRL, CVRDE, and R&DE (Engineers), were also present.
