Jammu, (DD):The Society of Fetal Medicine, in collaboration with the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Paediatrics of SMGS Hospital, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, successfully organized the Early Summer Meeting cum CME today at the SMGS Auditorium. The event attracted nearly 300 registered delegates, including gynecologists, radiologists, pediatricians, and postgraduate trainees from across Jammu & Kashmir and neighboring states.
The Continuing Medical Education (CME) program, themed “Prenatal Diagnostic & Therapeutic Fetal Interventions: An Update,” focused on the vital role of prenatal genetic testing and fetal interventions in enhancing pregnancy outcomes and reducing neonatal morbidity and mortality.
Delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal & Dean, GMC Jammu, highlighted the importance of early genetic screening in identifying congenital anomalies. He praised the Genetic Center at SMGS Hospital for its comprehensive services, including non-invasive and invasive prenatal diagnostics like amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, cordocentesis, as well as therapeutic interventions such as amnioreduction and fetal reduction. He noted that these services empower clinicians and families to make informed, timely decisions during pregnancy.
The scientific sessions were enriched by insights from leading experts in the field. Headlining the event were Dr. Ashok Khurana, a pioneer in fetal ultrasound in India, and Dr. K Aparna Sharma, Additional Professor and Unit Head of Fetal Medicine at AIIMS, New Delhi. Other key speakers included Dr. Sanjeev K. Digra, Dr. Arshad Bhat, Dr. Rashmi Sharma, and Dr. Neha Mahajan, who shared the latest advancements and practices in prenatal diagnostics and fetal interventions.
