Ensure Strong Border Security Grid: DIG Shridhar Patil

Kathua: The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Shridhar Patil, has directed the police to ensure seamless coordination with other security agencies in the fight against terrorism.

Kathua district, located close to the International Border with Pakistan, requires its security arrangements to be regularly reviewed, with coordinated efforts to meet the challenges of terrorism posed by the neighbouring country.

To review the situation, DIG Shridhar Patil chaired a comprehensive security and crime review meeting with all supervisory officers. He was briefed on the detailed security scenario, preventive measures, and crime situation in the district by SSP Kathua, Mohita Sharma.

The DIG held one-to-one interactions with all participating officers to assess ground-level functioning and challenges. Emphasizing the strategic sensitivity of border areas, Patil directed officers to maintain strict vigilance and heightened alertness to effectively foil any designs of anti-national elements (ANEs).

Officers were instructed to ensure robust naka checking, increased patrolling, and seamless coordination with other security agencies to maintain a strong security grid along the border.

A detailed crime review was also conducted, during which the DIG examined cases registered across Kathua district, their investigation status, and disposal. He emphasized expediting investigations of pending cases and ensuring timely disposal as per the timelines prescribed under the New Criminal Laws (NCL), so that the benefits of legal reforms reach society through speedy justice.

The DIG also reviewed the status of inquest proceedings, absconders, history-sheeters, and gangsters. He directed officers to maintain 360-degree surveillance over criminal elements and ensure that criminals face the wrath of the law by taking all necessary steps to curb their activities, particularly those of organized crime syndicates and gangsters, so that the general public feels safe and secure.

During the meeting, he directed all officers to take strict legal action against drug smugglers and peddlers to curb the drug menace effectively. He further exhorted officers to take stringent action against bovine smugglers and other criminals.
