Drone Attacks on Srinagar Airport and Awantipora Air Base Foiled

Diplomat Correspondent
Srinagar, (DD)Attempted drone attacks targeting Srinagar airport and the Awantipora air base in south Kashmir were successfully thwarted late Friday night, officials confirmed.

The incident occurred just a day after India intercepted a similar offensive by Pakistan involving drones and missiles aimed at Indian military installations.

Officials reported drone sightings in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, where countermeasures were swiftly deployed. The sky lit up as security forces shot down multiple drones believed to have originated from across the border.

Earlier in the evening, explosions were heard and sirens blared across parts of Jammu and south Kashmir, coinciding with widespread power outages. Drones were also reported over Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, and Nagrota, as well as Pathankot district in neighbouring Punjab.

Defence officials confirmed that all aerial threats were being actively engaged. In Srinagar, mosque loudspeakers were used to advise residents to switch off their lights as a precautionary measure.

Tensions remain high between India and Pakistan following the Indian Armed Forces’ precision strikes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) earlier this week. The operation was launched in response to the 22 April terrorist attack(DD)
