Pahalgam, (DD) Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced today that the central government is set to introduce significant initiatives to revive the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need to insulate tourism from the region’s political climate.

Speaking at a press conference in Pahalgam, Omar highlighted the vital role tourism plays in the Union Territory’s economy. “Tourism isn’t just leisure—it’s a livelihood for countless families across Kashmir. It must be treated as an economic engine, not a political issue,” he said.

The Chief Minister revealed that he has held detailed discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the revival of tourism and the safety of visitors to the region. “I’ve raised key concerns and proposed solutions. While I can’t disclose everything now, I can assure you that major announcements are on the way,” he stated.

He also confirmed that preparations are underway for a peaceful and well-organized Amarnath Yatra, with all necessary arrangements being put in place to ensure the safety and convenience of pilgrims.

The remarks come at a time when efforts are intensifying to restore confidence among tourists and stakeholders following recent security incidents. The government hopes these measures will encourage visitors to return and help rejuvenate the region’s economy. (DD)
