Akhnoor : DD, The recent rains caused unprecedented floods in J&K and many states of India, leading to great loss to life and property. In the past also, NCCHWO Members have been helping fellow countrymen in distress like COVID. Accordingly, a liaison was carried with the Crossed Sword Division, to ascertain the worst flood affected population adjoining River Chenab, so that the needy could be extended help and efforts of the Government could be supplemented. On the request of Brig Harcharan Singh (Retired) , the Indian Army identified certain severely affected villagers of Pallan Wala Requisite items of daily usage were procured to include Ration, Kitchen Appliances, Toiletry items, Bedding etc. A simple gathering was organized by the army at Akhnoor, where the necessary items of daily use were handed over to the Victims of flood, in the presence of senior Army officials . It was assured by the Army that all the donated items would be delivered to Villagers at their doorstep.
In addition to providing material help to affected families, occasion was also used to interact and provide healing touch to those, who faced the fury of Mother Nature, unleashed during recent floods. The affected villagers require both material help and psychological support of the society, during this difficult phase. Brig Harcharan Singh mentioned about the support given by the Army in the whole of J&K and other places affected by natural calamities. With their timely humanitarian aid and dedicated efforts , the Army has won the appreciation of people. He also appreciated the role of other NGOs, eg, Rotary Club Jammu Elite, Kyari Sainik Colony, Team Urban Mela, Aggarwal Sabha Jammu, Jainco Automobile, Dentist Association, IWC Jammu Tawi, who came forward to supplement the efforts of NCCHWO, by mobilizing funds and providing material help. Citizens of Jammu are always there to supplement relief efforts run by Govt and the Army. As it happened to be the auspicious Day when NCCHWO was raised, the members of NCCHWO renewed their resolve to continue efforts to support the needy.
GOC Cross Sword Division appreciated the efforts of citizens of Jammu, who always volunteer to help those who are in urgent need of rehabilitation. He said, that in border area, anyone requiring help can contact any Army unit in vicinity, even on telephone. The citizens/ NGOs who took initiative to help the needy family were felicitated by the GOC, followed by appreciation to Mrs Paramjit Kaur, National President of Women Cell, NCCHWO.
The rock solid support of the Army/ NGOs for the citizens in distress has proven that family is not about blood, it is who is willing to hold your hand when you need it the most.DD
