Rajouri: DD, The Indian Army conducted a lecture on ‘Winter Diseases and their Prevention’ at HSS, Kalaban Gali.
The event witnessed the participation of 67 students along with teachers and staff members, who actively engaged in the session.
The lecture was curated to address the specific health challenges faced by residents in the high altitude belts of the region during harsh winter months. The Lecture elucidated the causes and symptoms of common winter ailments such as Influenza, Chilblains (Perniosis), and Hypothermia.
The special emphasis was laid on the silent but deadly threat of Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning caused by the use of coal bukharis and gas heaters in unventilated rooms, educating students on the critical importance of proper ventilation.
During the interaction, the students were equipped with practical, science-backed preventive measures.

The concept of the ‘Layering System’ for clothing to retain body heat, the importance of maintaining hydration, and the inclusion of immunity-boosting local foods in their diet were discussed in detail. The lecture encouraged the students to act as ‘Health Ambassadors’ for their families by spreading awareness about safe heating practices to prevent cold-related injuries and accidents. The event was conducted in an interactive and participatory format, wherein students clarified their doubts regarding cold exposure injuries and shared their own experiences of winter hardships.
The session concluded with a comprehensive review of safety protocols, empowering the youth to take proactive charge of their health during the sub-zero temperature season.

The school authorities and the principal conveyed their deep appreciation to the Indian Army for organising such a timely and informative lecture.
They acknowledged that such initiatives play a pivotal role in community health safety and further strengthen the bond of the ‘Army-Awam connect’.DD
