Trinamool Congress Delegation Visits Rajouri, Meets Shelling Victims

Diplomat Correspondent

Rajouri, (DD) A high-level delegation of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) visited Rajouri today to meet victims of recent cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC). The visit comes amid heightened tensions in the region and growing concern over the safety and rehabilitation of affected civilians.

The delegation, comprising senior party leaders including MPs and spokespersons, toured several forward villages in the district where shelling in recent weeks has damaged homes and displaced residents. The leaders interacted with affected families, listened to their grievances, and expressed solidarity with those who lost property and livelihoods due to the hostilities.

“We came here not as political visitors, but as fellow citizens concerned about the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Rajouri,” one AITC leader said. “The plight of civilians living under constant threat near the LoC is unimaginable, and the central government must take urgent steps to provide them relief, ensure their safety, and work towards long-term peace.”

The delegation also met with local administration officials, demanding enhanced compensation for the victims, better bunkers, and stronger rehabilitation measures. A memorandum highlighting these concerns will be submitted to the Union Home Ministry, the party said.

Locals welcomed the visit, calling it a much-needed gesture of support from a national political party outside the traditional mainstream of J&K politics.

The visit is seen as part of AITC’s broader national outreach and its efforts to position itself as a pan-India alternative committed to issues of national concern, including border security and civilian welfare(DD)
