Srinagar, (DD):In the aftermath of massive landslides caused by continuous heavy rainfall, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that efforts are underway to restore the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and the affected residential areas in Ramban.

The Chief Minister announced he would personally visit Ramban to assess the situation and chair a high-level review meeting.

“The situation in parts of Ramban has worsened. While the Deputy Chief Minister and two local MLAs were already sent to assess the ground conditions, I will now visit the area myself to ensure necessary action is taken,” Omar Abdullah said

He confirmed that relief operations are ongoing, and funds from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and other sources will be used to provide compensation to affected families.

The Chief Minister assured the public that there is no shortage of essential commodities and appealed to citizens to avoid hoarding.

“Officials have been instructed to take strong action against black marketing and price manipulation. Police will step in where needed, and arrests will be made if necessary,” he stated.

He urged residents to report any instances of black marketing so authorities can act swiftly.

Omar Abdullah further said that while the Jammu-Srinagar highway remains closed, the Mughal Road may be used as an alternative route to ensure the supply of essential goods if required.

Addressing a separate query on legal matters, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the role of the judiciary:

“The Supreme Court is empowered to review actions of the Centre or any other authority. Even in the case of Article 370, the matter was taken up by the court, which has offered some relief so far. Judicial oversight should not be politicized,” he said.(DD)
