RAMBAN,DD: Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed for vehicular traffic, following heavy rainfall that triggered landslides, flash-flood at several places in Ramban District.
Besides, the authorities have confirmed that a cloud burst wreaks havoc in Dharamkund – a remote area in Ramban District.

However, the damage to property is unconfirmed due to the inclement weather conditions.
“We have stopped vehicular traffic movement on the highway since 4 AM today because of landslides at several places in Ramban,” said an official from the traffic department.

ADC Ramban, Varunjeet Singh Charak told Diplomat Digital that the highway has been closed due to landslides in Panthyal, Seri, and other areas of Ramban District.

“The Quick Response Teams (QRT), and Ramban Police are addressing the distressed calls from the people. However, we are unable to launch a full-fledged rescue operation because of constant landslides amid heavy rains,” said Charak.
He said that the administration and the police are working in synergy to rescue the people, and assess the losses suffered by the people. However, the inclement weather conditions are making the movement difficult for the rescue teams.
Meanwhile, he said that all the six wards in Ramban town have been affected due to the flash-flood.
There are reports of damages to the private and public properties, and vehicles have been struck in the choked roads in the town due to flash-flood, as per the officials.
“The situation is being accessed,” they added. Further details are awaited.DD
