Srinagar, (DD) Tensions ran high outside Paras Hospital in Srinagar today after the death of a 34-year-old man from Pampore, with his family accusing the hospital staff of medical negligence.

The deceased, Waseem Ahmad Pathan, a resident of Bilal Colony, Pampore, had been admitted to the hospital eight days ago for treatment of an intestinal infection. According to the family, Waseem underwent surgery to remove a cyst and was discharged. However, he returned to the hospital the following day with complaints of severe abdominal pain.

“Waseem told us the doctors might have injured his intestine during the first surgery. He was taken in for a second operation, but never recovered,” said his brother, demanding justice.

The family alleged that despite paying nearly Rs 2.5 lakh for treatment, the care provided was grossly inadequate. “This wasn’t a small error—this was life and death. My brother died due to sheer negligence,” he said. “We hold the hospital responsible.”

Relatives and neighbors gathered in large numbers outside the hospital premises, staging a protest and demanding immediate action against the concerned doctor and hospital administration.

“We appeal to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take strict action. A young life has been lost—this cannot go unpunished,” said a protestor.

The family has urged health authorities to launch a high-level inquiry and ensure accountability. “If justice is not served, more lives will be at risk in the future,” a relative added.

Hospital authorities were not available for comment at the time of filing this report(DD)
