Wife Arrested for Allegedly Killing Husband Over Illicit Relationship in Kathua, Police Say

Kathua, J&K (India): Police on Wednesday claimed to have solved a blind murder case with the arrest of a woman accused of murdering her husband in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to police, Billawar Police received information that a person identified as Bittu Ram, son of Durga Dass, a resident of Dhar Dugnoo, Tehsil Billawar, District Kathua, was found dead in a nallah under mysterious circumstances in his native village.

Police immediately launched an investigation after registering a case under Section 194 BNSS on 09-10-2025.

As the investigation progressed, a police team from Police Station Billawar visited the spot from where the body was recovered and collected crucial physical and circumstantial evidence.

During the course of the investigation, police revealed that the body had multiple injuries on the face and limbs, along with a ligature mark around the neck, raising serious suspicion of foul play.

Meanwhile, the post-mortem examination was conducted at the hospital for autopsy and other legal formalities. The investigating team, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, gathered vital evidence and examined several suspects.

The mysterious death was later confirmed to be a murder case, and subsequently, FIR No. 09/2026 under Section 103 BNS was registered at Police Station Billawar.

Police arrested the wife of the deceased, Simro Devi, a resident of Dhar Dugnoo, Tehsil Billawar, District Kathua, for questioning, after evidence indicated her alleged involvement.

“During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed her involvement in the crime and disclosed that she had an illicit relationship, which frequently led to quarrels and strained relations with her husband,” police said, quoting the interrogation.

The accused, according to police, admitted that due to these disputes, she strangulated Bittu Ram with a rope, resulting in his death.

Police added that relevant recoveries connected with the offence were also made during the course of the investigation.DD
