Srinagar, (DD)In a significant political development, the National Conference (NC) on Wednesday passed a series of key resolutions, most notably calling for the immediate restoration of statehood and the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir.

The resolutions were adopted during a crucial meeting of the NC’s Central Working Committee held at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, in Srinagar. The meeting was chaired by party president Dr. Farooq Abdullah.

This marked the first meeting of the party’s highest decision-making body since the NC returned to power in the 2024 Assembly elections. During the session, members observed a two-minute silence in remembrance of the 26 civilians who lost their lives in the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

The committee passed seven resolutions, which included:

Condemnation of violence and tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam attack.

Reaffirmation of the NC’s commitment to restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370 and 35A.

Demand for immediate restoration of full statehood, emphasizing the democratic and constitutional rights of the people.

Call for sustained peace and dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues through democratic means.

Reiteration of the party’s 2024 manifesto promises, especially on governance and public welfare.

Condemnation of targeted harassment and communal polarization across the country.

Emphasis on federalism and the autonomy of regions as essential pillars of Indian democracy.

The resolutions underscore the NC’s long-standing position that the revocation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the state in 2019 were unconstitutional and must be reversed to uphold the will and dignity of the people.

The party also appealed to all democratic forces to join hands in advocating for the restoration of rights and identity of Jammu and Kashmir (DD)
