LEH VIOLENCE: DM Imposes Strict Restrictions in Leh to Maintain Public Order

Leh:DD, The District Magistrate, Leh, Romil Singh Donk, on Wednesday issued an order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, imposing restrictions across the district to prevent any disturbance to public peace and safety.

The order prohibits any procession, rally, or march without prior written approval from the competent authority. Use of vehicles mounted with loudspeakers or public announcements requires prior permission, and making statements that could disturb public tranquillity or trigger law and order issues is strictly barred.

Additionally, assemblies of five or more persons are not allowed in the district. The District Magistrate emphasized that the order is being passed ex-parte as it cannot be served individually, and any violation will invite punitive action under Section 223 of BNS 2023.

The order comes amid apprehensions of possible disturbances in Leh, with authorities stressing immediate preventive and remedial measures to maintain law and order in the district. (KNC)
