Pathankot, Punjab (India): Western Command of the Indian Army today showcased operational capabilities in surveillance, precision firepower, rapid force mobilisation, and integrated multi-domain warfare.
The Western Command defends the Indian Border with Pakistan, i.e., the International Border from Punjab, J&K, Haryana, up to parts of Rajasthan. It is considered one of the important deterrents against infiltration.
The capability was showcased during the Investiture Ceremony of the Western Command, which was held at Mamun Military Station, Punjab, featuring a combat capability demonstration at Dhyan Chand Stadium.
The event was presided over by Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, Army Commander, Western Command, and attended by military personnel and their families, along with representatives from the civil administration, police, paramilitary forces, and civilians.
The ceremony honoured units with citations for exemplary service and significant contributions, reinforcing a culture of excellence, dedication, and professional competence. The occasion paid tribute to the brave men and women who played a pivotal role in safeguarding the nation’s security, particularly during operations such as Operation Sindoor and Operation Rahat, inspiring future generations to uphold the legacy of honour and selfless service.
The event highlighted the Command’s evolving operational capabilities in surveillance, precision firepower, rapid force mobilisation, and integrated multi-domain warfare. The Bhairav Battalion delivered a notable display of combat proficiency and tactical precision. Advancements in battlefield digitisation and indigenous drone fabrication were showcased, including drones with ranges exceeding 100 km. The demonstration reflected the Command’s ability to conduct deep precision engagements and shape the tactical battlefield environment, reaffirming its readiness to respond swiftly across the spectrum of conflict.
Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, stated that the investiture recognised exceptional courage, professionalism, and selfless service while honouring the sacrifices of fallen soldiers and veterans.
He underscored the successful execution of Operation Sindoor and emphasised the Command’s high operational readiness, jointmanship, and multi-domain capabilities demonstrated during recent operations and exercises. He reaffirmed Western Command’s commitment to sustained preparedness, technological modernisation, and inter-agency coordination in support of national security.
Western Command remains committed to continuous training, capability enhancement, and operational excellence to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
