Indian Defence Minister to Lead Delegation at SCO Defence Ministers’ Meet in Bishkek

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lead a high-level Indian delegation to the Defence Ministers’ Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), scheduled to be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on April 28, 2026.

During the meeting, defence ministers from SCO member countries will deliberate on key regional and global security issues, including international peace, counter-terrorism efforts, and defence cooperation among member states.

The meeting is being held against the backdrop of ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly the situation in West Asia. As one of the largest political and economic organisations in the region, the SCO is expected to discuss measures to mitigate the impact of the ongoing conflict.
Rajnath Singh is expected to reaffirm India’s commitment to global peace and stability amid prevailing security challenges. He will also reiterate India’s firm stance on zero tolerance towards terrorism and extremism.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Defence Minister is likely to hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts from participating countries.
The SCO, an intergovernmental organisation established on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai, China, comprises member states including India, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Belarus. India became a full member in 2017 and assumed the rotating chairmanship in 2023.
