Udhampur, Sep 22 (TDD):  In run up to the third phase of assembly elections in Udhampur on October 1, authorities have intensified efforts to prevent illegal activities aimed at influencing voters.

District Election Officer Saloni Rai revealed that Rs: 55 lakh in cash, along with drugs and liquor, has been seized to date, signaling attempts to undermine the democratic process.

To tackle electoral malpractice, the administration has deployed 32 Static Surveillance Teams and 32 Flying Squads across Udhampur’s four assembly constituencies. These teams are working proactively to monitor and prevent illegal activities that could affect the elections.

District authorities are also using the Election Commission’s cVIGIL app, which allows citizens to report electoral violations in real-time. In addition, CCTV cameras have been installed along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other key locations, streaming live footage to election officials. This surveillance network, covering areas from Tikri to the Chenani-Nashri Tunnels, is aimed at intercepting any illicit goods being transported.

As the election day approaches, Saloni Rai urged Udhampur’s voters to participate without fear, assuring them that the administration  committed to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.(TDD)
