Jammu, AIIMS Jammu concluded its Patient Safety Week with a closing ceremony focused on strengthening a culture of safety, awareness and continuous improvement in patient care. The week-long observance, coordinated by the Patient Safety Cell under the chairpersonship of Dr. Maria Kapoor, Chairperson, Patient Safety Cell, featured a series of awareness, training and patient-safety activities involving healthcare professionals and staff across the institute.Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Maria Kapoor, Chairperson, Patient Safety Cell, highlighted the importance of making patient safety a continuous institutional practice.
She said that the activities conducted during the week provided an opportunity for healthcare teams to identify potential risks, discuss practical challenges and reinforce safety practices at the point of care. She emphasised that teamwork, effective communication, adherence to safety protocols and timely reporting are essential to creating a safer environment for every patient.Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Sinha, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Jammu, appreciated the efforts of the Patient Safety Cell and the entire team for taking the initiative and putting together the week-long programme.
He appreciated the active participation of the entire team and said that the awareness programmes, discussions, training and other activities conducted during the week provided an opportunity to pause, reflect and remind ourselves of something very important—that every patient who comes to us places their trust in our hands.
He emphasised that patient safety must remain an integral part of every aspect of healthcare delivery.As part of the observance, Patient Safety Walkarounds were conducted in the OPD, IPD and Operation Theatre areas to identify potential patient-safety risks and strengthen safety practices. A Poster Competition on Patient Safety was also organised to encourage awareness and creative expression around important patient-safety practices.
A fire safety drill was conducted to strengthen preparedness and emergency response measures. All departments of AIIMS Jammu actively participated in the week-long activities, reflecting an institute-wide commitment towards strengthening patient safety. In addition, training and awareness activities focused on patient safety checklists, incident reporting, hazard identification and near-miss reporting, reinforcing the importance of systematic safety practices across the institute.
During the closing ceremony, the Patient Safety Cell also shared a significant recognition received by AIIMS Jammu at the National Patient Safety Conference 2026 held at AIIMS Nagpur, organised in collaboration with the National Patient Safety Secretariat, DGHS, MoHFW.
AIIMS Jammu was awarded for the outstanding Best Practice on the Power of Three Checks: Transforming Surgical Safety,” acknowledging the institution’s contribution towards advancing patient safety and quality of care.The observance concluded with a renewed emphasis on making patient safety a shared responsibility across all levels of healthcare delivery, with continued efforts towards safer systems, effective communication, vigilant reporting and continuous quality improvement at AIIMS Jammu.
