PCC Chief Tariq Hameed Karra urges Delhi to restore J&K’s statehood as promised

TDD Correspondent

Srinagar, (TDD): Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Tariq Hameed Karra today urged the central government to fulfill its promise of restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Karra said that this demand is not an act of protest but a principled stance based on commitments made by the BJP-led government in 2019.

Karra reminded the central government of its repeated assurances, including one made in Srinagar on September 19, to restore statehood “as soon as possible.” He expressed disappointment over the delay, calling it an affront to the aspirations and democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He also referenced the Supreme Court’s directives, stressing the need for immediate elections and the restoration of statehood in the region. Karra criticized the government’s inaction, stating, “If you cannot fulfill your promises as a moral obligation, at least respect the directions of the Supreme Court.”

When asked about remarks made by Omar Abdullah, Karra declined to comment, stating that his focus was solely on the day’s agenda.(TDD)
