Leh: In a significant move to strengthen peace, public order, and social harmony in Ladakh in the broader public interest, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has approved the withdrawal of criminal cases registered against 20 individuals involved in the violence that occurred in Leh on September 24 last year.
The Lieutenant Governor stated that the decision aims to provide these individuals with an opportunity to move beyond protracted legal proceedings and steer their lives and careers in a positive direction. Following a comprehensive review of the matter, the Ladakh Police had recommended filing closure reports regarding these 20 individuals. The case was registered at the Leh Police Station (FIR No. 144/2005), and action has been taken under the provisions of Section 360 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
According to the Lieutenant Governor, this decision—taken after reviewing the case and considering the police recommendation—prioritizes peace,
social healing, and mutual harmony over prolonging the judicial process. He noted that the decision would allow the 20 individuals to focus on their futures and professional lives, thereby helping to foster a more peaceful, united, and harmonious environment in Ladakh.
Vinai Kumar Saxena expressed his gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his constant guidance and sensitive approach regarding the victims and their families throughout this process. He remarked that this decision, taken in the larger interest of peace, public order, and social harmony, marks a crucial step towards strengthening dialogue, trust, and social cohesion in Ladakh.
