Jammu: The Indian Institute of Management Jammu inaugurated the 17th batch of the Nurturing Future Leadership Programme under the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, at Jagti.
Dr. Ateeque Shaikh, Programme Director, and Prof. Prashant Mishra, Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy, presided over the inaugural ceremony. The event began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolising the pursuit of knowledge and collective wisdom. The training programme includes 16 participants from different parts of the country.
Dr. Ateeque Shaikh shared an overview of the five-day programme and emphasised the importance of staying relevant in today’s rapidly evolving professional landscape. Reflecting on the institute’s growth journey, he noted that from an initial strength of around 60 students, Indian Institute of Management Jammu has expanded to more than 1,000 students across its various programmes.
Sharing his experience as the former Chairperson (Admissions), he mentioned that students were once encouraged to record short videos highlighting the sense of safety and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, which helped build confidence among prospective students and their families and contributed to greater gender diversity on campus.
He also highlighted the diverse academic programmes offered at the institute, including the MBA in Healthcare Management, jointly offered with AIIMS Jammu and IIT Jammu, as well as the dual degree B.Tech + MBA programme in collaboration with IIT Jammu. He further noted that the institute currently has around 60 faculty members and robust academic infrastructure, including the Nalanda Library and Harvard-style classrooms that support the case-based pedagogy for which IIMs are widely known.
Prof. Prashant Mishra, Programme Director and Chairperson, Executive Education & Consultancy (EE&C), warmly welcomed the participants and described the programme as a homecoming for professionals from academia and industry, encouraging them to feel at home at the institute.
In his address, he provided an overview of the Executive Education & Consultancy initiatives at Indian Institute of Management Jammu, emphasising their role in bridging industry practices with academic learning. He noted that bringing insights and experiences from industry engagements into the classroom enriches students’ learning experiences.
Prof. Mishra also briefly shared his professional journey and highlighted his role in leading the Executive Education & Consultancy initiatives at the institute, reinforcing its commitment to continuous learning and knowledge exchange.
He later delivered the formal vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the participants, faculty members, and the organising team for their contributions to the successful inauguration of Batch 17.
During the session, participants introduced themselves and shared their expectations from the training programme. The Nurturing Future Leadership Programme continues to reinforce the institute’s commitment to capacity building, academic excellence, and collaborative knowledge creation. The training programme is being coordinated by the Executive Education and Consultancy division of Indian Institute of Management Jammu.
