Indo-French Military Exercise SHAKTI-VIII Showcases Combat Synergy and Readiness in France

Jammu, (DD)The eighth edition of the Indo-French joint military exercise SHAKTI-VIII is currently underway at Camp Larzac in La Cavalerie, Southern France, with troops from both nations actively participating in a series of intensive training drills aimed at boosting interoperability, tactical coordination, and mutual trust.

The Indian Army contingent, led by a battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, is taking part in the exercise alongside the French Army’s 13ᵉ Foreign Legion Half-Brigade (13e DBLE). Together, the two forces are engaged in mission-oriented training scenarios, focusing on sub-conventional operations in complex terrain.

Key activities include combat shooting in semi-developed environments, obstacle crossings, joint planning exercises, and rigorous advanced obstacle course training designed to simulate real-world battlefield conditions. Notably, the live-fire drills have provided a platform for both nations to showcase their latest generation of small arms and tactical weaponry.

The Indian Army demonstrated the precision and versatility of its new indigenous weapon systems, while the French forces employed their battle-tested, modular firearms known for their robustness and reliability. The synergy displayed during these exercises underlined the high level of professionalism and combat preparedness of both contingents.

In a nod to modern battlefield challenges, specialist teams from both sides also conducted Electronic Warfare (EW) training, focusing on electromagnetic spectrum management and secure communications. Joint drills on Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) were also held, including live demonstrations of cutting-edge anti-drone technologies.

The exercise further includes joint operational planning using the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP) framework, aimed at enhancing mission integration, decision-making, and overall command efficiency.

According to defence officials, SHAKTI-VIII continues to serve as a vital platform for sharing best practices, refining operational tactics, and deepening defence cooperation. The exercise reaffirms the strategic partnership between India and France(DD)
