Jammu, Feb 21: The Department of Political Science at the University of Jammu has completed a five-day field study (February 16–20, 2026) for postgraduate students of Semester IV, focusing on governance shifts in Jammu and Kashmir following the administrative restructuring of 2019. The study was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Baljit Singh Mann, Head of Department, as part of the MA Political Science final semester curriculum.
The field study, titled “Dynamics of Governance in J&K Since 2019: A Study of Jammu, Samba, Udhampur and Reasi Districts,” aimed to provide students with empirical exposure to administrative functioning and governance practices across four key districts of the Jammu region.
During the visit, students observed governance processes and interacted with local stakeholders at multiple locations. In 6, the team conducted field observations in Kotli Shah Doula and the Municipal Committee, R.S. Pura. In Samba district, the study covered Supwal and the Municipal Committee, Samba. The Udhampur leg included Garhi and the Municipal Committee, Udhampur, while the Reasi district visits focused on Sula Park and Mahadev Nagar.
According to the department, these engagements allowed students to assess grassroots administrative mechanisms, the functioning of local bodies, and district-level governance practices in the post-2019 context.
A total of 62 postgraduate students took part in the academic exercise. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Shaveta Chowdhary (Coordinator, Field Study) and Mr. Vishabjeet Singh Chib (Co-Coordinator), who oversaw logistics and field facilitation.
The department stated that the field study strengthened students’ practical understanding of evolving governance dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir and reaffirmed its emphasis on experiential and research-oriented learning in political science.
